Katherine Smith-Schad’s art is constantly changing and evolving, just as life. A busy mom working full-time as an artist and an art coach, Smith-Schad. When Katherine is not coaching others, playing with her kids or working in the garden she is most likely painting in her studio.
Katherine's paintings are often inspired by the garden, hope and the great outdoors of the West. They are bold in color, depth and light. Often moving beyond traditional perceptions of painting, Katherine utilizes combinations of acrylic, ink and watercolor on various types of base, including canvas, board, ceramic, metal, glass, found materials, and interestingly, Yupo and TerraSkin. Yupo is 100% recyclable “tree free” synthetic paper made from recycled plastic water bottles in the US, and TerraSkin is environmentally friendly paper made from rock and resin in Canada. Katherine began painting in 2001 and started sharing her talent with the public in 2012. Her work is featured in several galleries in Northern and Southern California.
