Katie Nelson's Profile

About

Who am I? That seems to be the question most people try to answer in their profiles - who they are and how they came to be on Etsy. I don't know if it started on the proverbial "dark and stormy night", but here goes...

I've always had a penchant/knack for the artsy/craftsy things of the world. My mom, who has a lot of natural artistic ability (I had the BEST lunchbox notes in the world!!), got me started on counted cross stitch at a young age as a way to keep me out of her hair after I'd read all of the books in the house. I've done all sorts of wonderful and fun projects as wedding gifts and presents for family and friends, and I have always enjoyed the work.

Then, after college, I had a co-worker who started making jewelry and asked if I would like to come hang out with her at a craft show (two sets of hands are WAY better than one!),…

Then, after college, I had a co-worker who started making jewelry and asked if I would like to come hang out with her at a craft show (two sets of hands are WAY better than one!), so I did. And, while I watched her work, I thought "Hey, I can do that!" I took a couple of classes and quickly realized that beadweaving was going to be my favorite thing to do. I guess it's the whole needle and thread connection to my cross stitch days?

Five years later, and I'm still loving every minute of it! My office at home is overrun with beads, and I'm always working on something new (that never seems to be the project I MEANT to work on). I'm always finding new favorite ideas to play with, and, doggonit, I love those little glass beads!

For my day job, I work in Accounting, where I still get lots of strange looks for being the "artistic" one...but, I just tell them it's because I'm left-handed. That usually works.

I'm a member of the following Etsy teams:
* Etsy Texas Crafters
* Etsy Shops
* HTownEtsy - HTown = Houston (area) for those of you who don't already know...
* Left-Handed Ladies & Gents - I'm left-handed (VERY!) and proud of it! Just don't ask me to use a can opener!!
* The Houston Creators Team

Thanks for checking me out! I hope you enjoy the goodies that I've beaded, and please contact me if you have any questions!!
