Katherine Helms Cummings' Profile
I live in rural Georgia and work in the nonprofit world. After becoming an accidental environmental advocate, I started to think really hard about reducing the waste in my household, and how I could reuse and repurpose things until there was nothing left to throw away.
After a short and successful bout with cancer I dusted off my sewing machine and started sewing (it had been too many years since I had made anything). After making a few skirts I decided to try something completely new and my adventure with repurposing cashmere and woven textiles began.
Every sweater behaves differently in the felting process so sometimes I have to regroup on my original design idea. I added woven textiles to my handmade goods when I had scraps leftover from summer skirts I made for myself…
