About

I design and create each of my handmade books with the idea that blank journals or photo albums should be as unique as the thoughts and personal life experiences that they will one day harbor. Using a pour method of sheet formation, I make and dye much of the paper that I use in my cover designs. Although I use a wide variety of fibers for my pulp, I make the bulk of my papers using unbleached abaca or recycled card stock that I blend in an industrial blender and dye using aqueous dispersed pigments and retention agent. Each book cover I piece together centers around a design I've cut from my own handmade papers, a design I create using torn recycled images, old novel covers and found objects, or a design I make using some combination of the above. I also collect a wide variety of acid-free colored card stocks, watercolor papers and colored text stock papers that I hand tear or cut to size for use as blank pages in my handmade books. I hand-sew all of the bindings in my books myself. No assistants are employed in the creation of my work except for occasional help from a family member (folding pages or poking holes in preparation for sewing).
