Cheryl Brumfield-Knox's Profile

About

My primary creative interests are nurtured through jewelry, pastel landscapes, and stained glass.

Creating jewelry is an immensely enjoyable pursuit and a highly addictive and satisfying medium. It is an outgrowth of my working with crystals and stained glass and is an increasingly expansive and idea-provoking craft for me. I particularly love working with metals and enamels, as well as playing with "components"-- fine glass lampwork beads from other (often, award-winning) artists.

My pastel images are usually of ethereal landscapes from my imagination.
Many of my frames are made from salvaged wood from structures destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The authentic colors, uniqueness, reward of preserving of a bit of history-and combining one with a work of art, completes the creative circle for me…

The authentic colors, uniqueness, reward of preserving of a bit of history-and combining one with a work of art, completes the creative circle for me. Of course, I also use traditional frames for pastels, but there is such compelling beauty with the one of a kind Katrina frames.

Stained glass is a beautiful medium with endless creative potential. My stained glass images break with convention by incorporating beveled glass and Swarovski crystals into the designs, complemented with an endless variety of colored glass, each with their different reflective properties. Swarovski crystals add another aesthetic dimension to a sunlit glass design in a window: cascades of rainbows dancing across a room. The interaction of sunlight and incandescent lighting with stained glass is magical and ever-changing.

Whether working with colorful enamels and textured metals creating jewelry, or pastel landscapes and stained glass, my goal is to make an original and imaginative composition the most elegant, sometimes whimsical, work of art possible.

Education: I attended Columbus College of Art and Design, and received my BA from Edinboro University.
