Welcome to Alpaca Avenue!

In early 2008 I was searching on-line for yarn stores in Toronto and discovered the world of alpacas and their wonderful fibre! It was love at first sight and after our first farm visit it was not long before we bought our first alpaca. Living in the city requires us to agist our animals and they are well taken care of by more experienced alpaca breeders.
Alpacas are unique and we offer a variety of yarns and unique hand-knitted items. Some of the yarns will be mill spun and others will be hand-spun. We purchase raw fleece from other local producers and will also be offering quality rovings for hand spinners. The focus is primarily alpaca fibre but it will be blended at times with other natural fibres for additional characteristics such as memory, sheen and strength.

I learned to knit as a child and returned to knitting in 2008 and enjoy making simple but well made items such as hats, scarves, fingerless mitts and baby items. Each item will be unique. I searched for a product to wash the fibre and the finished products with and discovered soap nuts which is a renewable natural laundry detergent that is also enviromentally friendly. Although soap nuts do not grow in Canda I buy through a Canadian distributer.
Alpaca yarns and more unique hand-knitted products are on their way...stay tuned... and thanks for stopping by!
