Welcome to Alpaca Avenue!

In early 2008 I was searching on-line for yarn stores in Toronto and discovered the world of alpacas and their wonderful fiber! It was love at first sight and after our first farm visit it was not long before we bought our first alpaca. Living in the city requires us to agist our animals and they are well taken care of by more experienced alpaca breeders.
Alpaca fiber is softer, stronger and warmer than wool. It can be blended with other natural fibers to add characteristics such as memory, strength and sheen. My focus is on natural fiber that has had minimal processing and making choices that are better for us and our environment.

I searched for a product to wash the fiber and the finished products with and discovered soap nuts which is a renewable natural laundry detergent that is also environmentally friendly. Although soap nuts do not grow in Canada I buy through a Canadian distributor.
