About

My husband and I and our Golden Retriever Ginger spend lots of time walking the beaches of beautiful Lake Erie collecting some of the most amazing pieces of beach glass from which I create unique one of a kind pieces of jewelry.

In it’s former life, beach glass – or seaglass as it is also known, enjoyed an existence as part of most homes serving as a beautiful home décor, tableware or as a decanter for beverages, medicines, household goods, canning jars, ink wells, and even poisons.

Once they served their usefulness, either thru breakage or just no longer needed, they were tossed away into our lake waters only to make it’s way back “home” many years later as these beautiful eye-pleasing gems.

Lake Erie has several dump sites where garbage was taken off shore and dumped into the water. Lake Erie also had numerous shipwrecks in which these items may have been a part. It could take 25, 50, or even 100 years for broken pieces of this glass to wash ashore as beautiful frosted gems that have been polished and tumbled by the wind, surf and sand and waiting to be found and treasured by future generations. I love collecting these lake gems and creating a beautiful piece of jewelry that can be worn or collected and handed down through the next generations, thus becoming a very historic heirloom.

All beach glass used in my creations is genuine and naturally sand and surf tumbled. Except for pieces that have been drilled, it is not altered in any way.

Although most of my beach glass (95%) is personally collected from the shores of Lake Erie, I do on occasion purchase genuine seaglass from reputable Etsy members (from England and Nova Scotia, as well as from the USA) who are known for their authentic top quality seaglass.

I have also recently opened a sister shop where I will be selling loose beach glass, driftwood, shells and other beach found items for your crafting needs or home decor. Please check it out at www.lakeeffectbeachglass.etsy.com.

So please enjoy your shopping experience here and delight in wearing a piece of Lake Erie history.
