La Vie Macabre's Profile

About

I have been in love with the art and ritual of Victorian mourning for a long time. Of particular fascination were the hair work jewelry items: delicate and beautiful, but also macabre and kind of strange. When I started researching them, I found that a number of skills I already posses translated into the creation of the weaves.

Currently I am working in three mediums. The hair work that was my first interest. Using synthetic hair, which affords me more length and is easier to keep clean, I am working my way through a hair work book published in the 1870s. (thanks Google books!) I am also making epoxy resin casts of antique jewelry. Since these are epoxy, they are light weight, durable, and keep hold of any focal points embedded in them. Lastly, I am working with glass and semi precious stone beads to create unique wire work pieces.
