About

I called my shop The Canadian Cat House because:
a) I am a Canadian Girl and very proud of it!
b) My house is in a friendly rural setting, where street lights and side walks do not exist!
c) I share the house with seven rescued cats who have a forever home with a rescued toy poodle-mix puppy, and there is even a little room left over to accommodate my husband too.
d) I have a quirky personality, and despite teasing from friends I am not a crazy old cat lady (yet)

Reason 1 - I appreciate my resced puppy and her little sloppy kisses too
Reason 2 - I recently had my cognitive capabilities tested, and was found to be for the most part within normal limits
Reason 3 - I'm only 37, but my gray hairs started appearing when I was in my teens, and many of my friends are older than me…

I took up making jewelry again (with a little more sophistication than what I did in my childhood) when my doctors advised that I wear a Medical Alert ID tag at all times due my evolving health conditions, and the side effects the medications prescribed have on me. (Medical Alert, you are a great organization, but my unique personality doesn't agree with wearing the commercially available designs that are available - I like to be different.)

Due to a sudden change in my health in early 2011, I have had to leave my chosen career path, and start pushing my way through the unknown. This is currently a one-girl jewelry creation shop (a hobby, not a business), a mentally healthy way for me to re-define purpose in my life, that does not push the limitations of my invisible disabilities.

I hope to enjoy the journey of leaving a 9-to5 job behind me, and use opportunity as a method to share some of the beautiful items that I create with you (a potential new friend and Customer ;o)s who enjoys the aesthetic, and personal details of home-made items.

I believe eventually that I will make many pieces that somewhere in my portfolio there will be atleast one piece of jewelry that will be in sync with any individual's personal taste. I not to (unless asked specifically for a made-to-order item) to produce the same item twice, as every person is unique and deserves to have a special accessory item for their body (or outfit) that is like them - a one of a kind!

I find inspiration in:
1) up-cycling existing jewelry components in combination with new materials
2) experimenting with colour combinations that frighten and delight the senses
3) learning and incorporating new techniques and
4) challenging myself to both acknowledge, then ignore what the current popular trends are.

Extra special details about me (in addition to Asthma, and Mydriasis):
I have Arthritis, Psoriasis, and Multiple Sclerosis, which means my immune system is attacking my own body. With M.S. the attacks are against my central nervous system. It is know as an invisible disease because most of the symptoms are not noticeable on the outside; some of the outward symptoms include: stumbling, loss of footing, easily being fatigued, and dropping things. I can forget what I am doing, slur or forget words, and how to implement previously learned tasks to new situations. The worst part is it can change from minute to minute what I can and can not do.
