Linda and Jim Winegar's Profile

About

We love working with clay and in particular, making functional ware that people use in their everyday lives. We've been creating with clay for 40 years. We met in "the pot shop" as the clay studio at Indiana University of Pennsylvania was called and were inspired to a life with clay by Frank Ross, our instructor, mentor & friend.
Jim was intrigued with clay as a child and still has the first piece he made with clay, in second grade. I, Linda was introduced to the media as an art major in college and immediately fell in love with this intriguing material of unlimited possibilities.

Our pottery is inspired by the beauty of our natural surroundings. Our studio and home are located on a 60 acre property in rural southwestern Pennsylvania. We've converted the 100+ year old barn into our studio and built an additional smaller version of the barn, to house our kilns. Most of our pottery is created on the potter's wheel, but we often add handles and hand-formed adornments such as leaves and acorns. Some pieces are embossed or carved by hand, with images inspired by the nature around us. A little of our spirit goes into each piece and we find joy in knowing that you have chosen one of our bowls for that special bowl of oatmeal in the morning or one of our mugs for your morning cup of coffee, or that comforting cup of tea at the end of the day. We hope you feel as we do that choosing to buy handmade is like choosing to buy local produce. When you buy handmade, you become part of our whole story. We enjoy meeting the people who purchase our work and participate in a number of art festivals/craft shows throughout the year. Please visit our website to find if/when we'll be in your community this year and to learn more about us and some of our other interests and activities: www.winegarpottery.com
