Lippy Lulu's Profile

About

LuLu was a girl like any other. She lived on a street in an old white house with a big white dog and a little white cat with big black splotches. She filled her room with many things, forgotten things. Fineries of old were especially alluring to LuLu. Laces and trims, silken gowns, colorful feathers. She imagined new things to do with the old. What spirit all these things had brought to her life. At each moment creating new fineries, she thought of the spirit inside these things. Of the life they had lived before. Perhaps they had gone to parties or been in store to make sumptuous hats. Re-invigorated, the things now left the shelves in LuLu's room. They assembled to share tales with one another, their spirits intertwined with thread and hooks and eyes. The stories shared between forgotten things breathed to life a whole new tale of mischief, love, adventure, intrigue. And though LuLu wanted to always house forgotten things in her…

And though LuLu wanted to always house forgotten things in her room in the old white house that she shared with the big white dog and the little white cat with big black splotches, she did not wish to trap them in their old skin, squashed into a hutch behind glass, she wanted to offer such forgotten fineries a chance to begin again.

Lulu went out to market one day. She saw some gowns on a dusty rack inside a shop where everything glistened. And, true, the gowns were not exactly perfect, for they did show signs of wear, some more than others. But they shined with an elegance that Lulu so wanted to show in a new light. She swooned. Some were white and had been worn on a special day, when a woman and man had exchanged a vow of eternal love. Some were colored, and had been envied at fancy balls. All were from a different time, a forgotten time. A time when silk reigned and impropriety could be examined in such a small measure as leaving the house without a hat. The gowns now all lined up inside the shop awaiting the purchase from a worthy admirer. An admirer who could see their inside worth, next to the tattered sleeve and fading tulle, and Lulu was just that. "Don't worry gowns, you are coming home with me." And so Lulu bought every one of the gowns on the dusty rack for a bargain price inside a shop where everything glistened.

She took the gowns to the old white house and placed them among the forgotten fineries in her room. "Gowns, you are now a part of these forgotten things. One day, you will have a new life, and in this life you will mix with trims and buttons and beads and feathers that you have never once set eyes on before." Lulu set out on a new adventure. The gowns being at the center of the story, but not the whole story. But this is where the story begins.
