About

I'm Melissa and I love crochet! My maternal grandmother taught me to crochet when I was around 9 years old. The first stitch design I learned was the timeless Granny Square. While Granny Squares are still being made, I find it very exciting how much the art of crochet has blossomed in the last few years. The designs of crochet were very old-fashioned and stale for a long time. But now the designs are new, beautiful and exciting!

About a year ago, I began to crochet with satin cord. My first attempt was a purse, but it was very heavy. I thought, “What could I make instead?” That’s when I began creating the bowls. About a year ago, I began to crochet with satin cord. My first attempt was a purse, but it was very heavy. I thought, “What could I make instead?” That’s when I began creating the bowls. The satin cord is a wonderful medium for making three-dimensional crochet. The fabric of the bowls is fairly firm on its own, so it does not require any additional stiffening. I have done a bit of searching, and I have found no one else who crochets with satin cord.

Once a bowl is completed, I embroider felt to the bottom to protect it. I purchase my felt from http://www.etsy.com/shop/BenzieBazaar which is 20 - 30% Australian wool. I have a warm spot in my heart for Australia as I had the opportunity to live there for two years.

I have had a couple of blogs feature my crochet that I have listed on flickr:

Besides crochet, I love gardening, photography, digital scrapbooking and history. I am a curious person, and love to learn and explore.

Thank you for your interest in my shop and feel free to contact me anytime. I hope you enjoy your visit.
