Hi! I'm Amanda! Welcome to Little Bird Fibers! I hope to provide spinners, felters, and fellow fiber fiends with squooshy fibers, gorgeous colorways, and unique inspiration! I am a mother of two, a part-time cog, and a fledgling fiber artist. I say "fledgling" not only because I can never pass up a pun, but because I am finally embracing the more artistic side of myself that I have always downplayed because it wasn't profitable or acceptable. I hope my artistry inspires you to your own!Little Bird Fibers has grown out of my love of fiber and color. What better way to express the joy of color than in beautiful fibers for other fiber artists - and there is an endless rainbow of color in the bird world! And I don’t intend to concentrate solely on the flashy birds – the subtle play of color in a beautiful Peregrine Falcon or a Snow Bunting is not to be overlooked! Most of my fibers (both batts and rovings) are one- or two-of-a-kind. I have way too much fun kettle dyeing, and at this point, I don’t want to be constrained to dyeing the same roving over and over again. If there are fibers that can be easily reproduced, I will mention that in the listing. And if you ever want a custom job, I will do my best to try to reproduce something in my shop.My batts are my joy – I love taking colors already available to me and playing them against each other, while being able to add texture and color with all manner of add-ins. I use fibers from all over the spectrum – wools to alpaca, silks, recycled sari silk, and lovely, crimpy locks! I sometimes use fibers from small, independent farms, and there will occasionally be VM in them. I do my best to get everything out as it goes for a whirl on my carder, but I can’t make promises that everything will be VM-free.My rovings are all handdyed and handpainted. I use pictures of birds, a majority of them from the Flickr group “Field Guide: Birds of the World.” Go check them out, the talent in this group is amazing: http://www.flickr.com/groups/birdguide/ Because these photos are all rights reserved, I will not be posting photos of my inspirations in my listings, but will include a link to the bird in the listings - I encourage you to click over and enjoy! My home is cat-friendly, but since the cats don't have thumbs, they don't need to be in my stash!
