I live in the middle of suburbia on a suburban farm, complete with 30,000 honey bees, 11 chickens, 3 kids, 1 husband and 1 crazy cat. My yard is not big by most standards, but my husband and I have taken on as a personal challenge to see just how much we can produce on our lot while enjoying the conveniences of city living. I pride myself on being a creator and a producer and have found my passion in saving honey bees. After keeping bees on my suburban lot as well as several miles out in the country, I noticed a big difference in the health of my hives. The country bees thrived while my suburban bees struggled. It has become obvious to me that where I live, surrounded by perfect green lawns, that there isn't enough food diversity for honey bees and other pollinators.
