About

I am a textile artist with over twenty years’ experience working with fabrics, yarns, and other fibre based media. My earliest childhood memories are firmly anchored in playing dress-up, hand made dollies and crafting. My mother was a west-coast Canadian hippie with a love for fabrics, embroidery, quilting, and handcrafts which instilled in me a love for making things with my hands from even the simplest, often repurposed materials.

I have attended two residencies in North Iceland and have participated in numerous exhibitions in Canada and Iceland.

During my time in Iceland, I have spent considerable time exploring “slow textiles” using very manual, traditional methods of making fabric. I hand spin my yarns on a spinning wheel and use a hand-built frame loom to produce my tapestries. My tapestries reflect the limited palette of the Icelandic landscape and represents elements of the sea, land and sky. I also use fish leather produced in North Iceland in some of my works.

In my practice, I am committed to mastering the proper handling of the dual coated wool of the Icelandic sheep and producing yarns, fabrics, and tapestries from this unique fibre. I intend to educate the world about the beauty and usefulness of Icelandic wool with my current exploration in this field.
