Thank you for taking an interest in my profile, I wanted to personalise my Etsy store with a little bit about myself and my journey of jewellery making.

My name is Sandy and I live in Canberra, ACT, Australia. I took an interest in jewellery making approximately 10 years ago and have never stopped since. Originally I was hungry for knowledge and read every book and magazine I could get my hands on to develop skills and techniques. Very quickly I fell in love with wirework designs and studied the gold wire sculpting system developed by world renowned Preston J. Reuther "Master Wire Sculptor".

I have studied many different techniques of wirework through a wide variety of resources and artists over the years and combined them all into creating my own unique style of jewellery which you can view through my listings.

I take a great deal of pride in my designs and create each and every piece lovingly by hand. There is no time limit involved, some pieces happen very quickly whereas others may take hours or even days due to the great attention to detail involved.

Most of my designs are not planned, I simply start of with a gemstone and/or a few beads and wire and work from there. The finished piece evolves many times during the process of creation. I love the process involved as I never know what the design will look like until it is finished, the gems and wire tend to do their own thing. It's a very therapeutic process which I'm not sure comes from the gems or the process itself however I always feel great after completion when I can sit back and admire the artistic appeal of the finished piece.

Over the years I have successfully sold to many retail outlets including boutiques, galleries, gift shops and wineries in the South West of Australia however I prefer online selling as I can do it at my own pace and increase/decrease listing due to personal time and other commitments.

If your looking for something unique, something that's not mass produced or made from inferior materials, please take a look through my designs. I am always happy to work from custom orders, so if your after something specific, please email and I will endeavour to create your own individual piece of wearable art.

I have won the following awards for my designs:

High Achievements from the Perth Royal Show ~

2006 CREATIVE CRAFT SECTION ~ METALCRAFT & JEWELLERY:

First Place ~ Article of Jewellery First Place ~ Jewellery Set Second Place ~ Wearable Art Third Place ~ Article of Metalcraft

Unfortunately I missed the deadline for a couple of years due to other commitments where I did not have time to enter.

ROLLED GOLD INFORMATION:

* Doesn't tarnish, darken or go black

* Won't fade or make your skin turn green

* Great for people who can't wear plated jewellery due to allergies

* The outer layer is REAL GOLD making it the next best thing to sold karat gold

Rolled gold wire, also known as gold filled, is made by forming a tube of gold and filling the tube with a base metal, usually jewellers brass. The gold content is 1/20th of the total wire and for most people, it will last their entire lifetime without showing signs of wear. An example is a ring that is worn 24/7, after about 3 years there will be signs of wearing on the inside of the shank so as you can imagine a pendant will last a lifetime and will often become a heirloom piece of jewellery which can be passed down through the family for generations to come.

There is 100 times more gold in rolled gold (gold filled) than in gold plate, this process dates back to the late 1800's and antique collectors would be well aware that it is not unusual to find old rolled gold pendants that are aged around 75 years!

Rolled gold/gold-filled jewellery offers buyers an affordable, durable choice at a fraction of the cost of solid karat gold. Another thing to consider is that 14kt is a much superior gold to the 9kt gold that is commonly available in Australia. Jewellery stores are now starting to stock 9kt rolled gold pieces of jewellery to offer gold lovers an economical alternative.

A simple inexpensive way to clean rolled gold jewellery is to soak it for a minute or two in a mild solution of ammonia and water or a commercial liquid jewellery cleaner. Rinse the jewellery thoroughly with water afterwards and let dry. You would care for your rolled gold jewellery in the exact same way as you care for your solid gold jewellery taking particular care with the gemstones.

SCULPTING INFORMATION:
The art of sculpting wire is done entirely by hand and involves the use of some basic jewellery making tools. There is no soldering, welding or gluing and all wire ends are discretely turned under so there are no sharp edges. There may be some imperfections as the pieces are handmade and not produced by a machine which adds to the character and uniqueness of each individual piece. No two pieces are the same, it is near impossible to duplicate the exact same piece due to the twisting and turning of the wires and the shape of the centre piece. As there are no patterns to follow and each design is created by working one wire at a time you can be assured you are buying a totally unique piece of jewellery that you won't find anywhere else.
