I came to live in Cambodia several years ago from Australia. A year ago I began searching for a new project. It needed to be something creative, fun & able to utilise resources from our local area.
I have been a passionate collector of beads for many years, never thinking one day I would be making them myself. I have a diploma in ceramics & once my husband discovered that we have great deposits of primary clay here in our area, the idea for making beautiful handmade beads of clay was born. All the beads are designed by me & hand rolled by a local Khmer family. Each bead is individual, no two being exactly the same. The beads are hand painted & glazed & are twice fired in my gas kiln to temperatures of between 1020 & 1100C. They are incredibly strong.
