I grew up in West Texas where cotton is king, and my glamorous teenage cousins got to compete in the Maid of Cotton beauty pageant.
I migrated to the Midwest and in 2004 I found a box of dusty old farm dresses and fabrics from the 30’s in the back of a junk shop that I got for a dollar. I love these vintage mostly floral, flour sack patterns in soft colors that usually make their way to being quilts. And I kept thinking of that song from Oklahoma, “The farmers and the cowboys should be friends”. Yes! farm dresses and cowboy western wear (aka denim) should be friends and my Maid of Cotton line was conceived.
