About

moshi-moshi! my name is melissa, and i'm happy you've found my little shop :).

i like to create things that are both fabulous-looking and functional with a japanese aesthetic. in my opinion, few things in this world are more useful than objects that allow one to express oneself through the written word, and as i am a writer as well as an artisan who loves all things japanese, i make pencils with gorgeous japanese washi paper to keep endearing the love of writing by hand. maoiliosa items fall nicely into the japanese phenomenon called 'zakka' - 'the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane'. it's my aim to share my love of japanese aesthetic with you, one pencil at a time!

arigatou gozaimashita (thank you), and enjoy!

a little more about me:

i graduated magna cum laude with a BGS degree with concentrations in english, sociology, and history in 2010. i am married to a wonderful man named brandon and have the most precious dog in the world (ginger, a chihuahua/fox terrier mix). my hobbies include writing (hence my love for pencils!), reading, enjoying music (whether it's listening to it, singing it, or playing an instrument), going to theme parks and concerts, traveling, studying film, visiting caves, exploring wooded areas, nature- and people-watching, swimming, and of course: art!

things i love to buy, especially on etsy: awesome artwork prints, autumn things, japanese clothes, japanese vintage items, japanese anything really!, and items with koi, owls, mushrooms, lotus blossoms, and hedgehogs. i'm instantly attracted to anything crimson, seafoam green, coral, or dark, dark green.
