My name is Marie Colette. I am a painter who works with the eighteenth century technique called "milk paint", which is the true technique of painting on wood surfaces. My subject matter includes botanical, pastoral scenes, poetic landscapes and animals. I paint on furniture, wood panels, and canvas. I am one of a handful of artists who practices the technique of "graining" which imitates the true grain of wood. The use of milk paint - pigment mixed with casein - gives a tranluscent quality to the paint surface.

I learned this centuries old technique at the Strasbourg Museum in France, which is my native country. I travel between Europe and America several times a year. Many of these trips include perusing flea markets and vintage shops in Paris.
