What is Vintage? I like to think of vintage as evolution for home goods. Beautiful crystal pieces, silk garments, proud bronze statues, vintage artwork, jars and jars and jars of buttons and beads and coins. . . . oh my. Sturdy well made goods many made with pride here in America now recycled, repurposed or up-cycled into something new.

For example there is a vintage item called a spooner. They come in all shapes and sizes and colors of glass. Young brides received them as wedding gifts . . . especially those brides who were in what we would call the middle class . . . not lots of money but they wanted to set a beautiful table.

Spooners sat in the middle of the table and held . . . spoons . . . just a few spoons because you were not wealthy enough to have a spoon for everyone.

The spooner has survived. It has evolved. They are the perfect size to hold my artist grade colored pencils. What a tremendous ice cream sundae you could make in a spooner. Collect six different spooners and have an ice cream party party. Gone are the days when everything has to match. So the spooner was born to hold spoons and now it is holding Hersey kisses or car keys or your daughter's hair elastics.

I thought I was born to be an oceanographer like Jacques Cousteau but then I met Biology 101. I was sure I would marry Bruce Springsteen and be his back-up singer but my voice . . . and those pesky stalking laws kept me from that dream. I realized my dream but multiple sclerosis cut my teaching career short. So, I evolved.

Searching for vintage items . . learning their history . . . finding a creative way to bring them here to Etsy fits my skill set and makes me happy.
