Meagan Segal's Profile

About

I’m a fine artist living in the Los Angeles area, with a love for all things anatomical, visceral, decorative, and creepy. My work balances the fine lines between the beautiful and the grotesque, intrigue and repulsion. As much as I am engrossed by blood and guts, I am equally drawn to the prettier things in life: flora and fauna, lacey patterns, Rococo scrollwork and Victorian illuminations. The illustrations in my shop are some of my less-gory pieces, an attempt to create something pretty, albeit in a slightly “off” way. I draw much of my inspiration from the Baroque still lifes of the 17th century, painted by masters such as Willem Kalf and Willem Van Aelst, as well as from contemporary artists of the low brow genre, including Elizabeth McGrath, Chris Berens, and Travis Louie.
