About

Museum planner by day...crafter by birth.

Some of my earliest memories are of falling asleep to the sound of my mother's sewing machine buzzing on the other side of my bedroom wall. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been making things - dollhouses and furniture, toys, then clothes, puppets, costumes, curtains, bedding, and finally children’s museum exhibits. My mother was very crafty, and a combination of joy and frugality led her (and me, her greatest fan and tagalong) to figure out how to make almost anything we needed or wanted. We are those customers that storekeepers hate – the ones who look at an item, study it, and then leave without buying it because instead we’re inspired to make it ourselves.

I love everything about making things - the practical challenge of figuring out how to do it, the boundless opportunity for creative expression, and the satisfaction of seeing something in your imagination become something in your hands. Much of my “day job” involves plans and designs on paper - sometimes years of paper before there is something concrete to see. The (almost) immediate gratification of crafting provides a balance for that.

My daughter Amelia is the inspiration for most of what I make now. We’ve been crafting – and making a mess! – together since she was an infant, and I’ve become known as the go-to mom among our friends and neighbors for all things that need repair, reinvention, a glue gun or a sewing machine. This shop is the result of their encouragement.

Today, as I sew while my daughter sleeps in another room, I smile and hope that this sound becomes part of the fabric of her memories too.
