About

I love creating things, if its not jewellery its sewing, painting or trying something new just for fun.
The changes in seasons here in Calgary Alberta (Canada) are quite dramatic and have a huge impact on my creative process as well as my source of inspiration. When the cold winter is over and spring slowly emerges so do all the ideas! I love to garden in the summer and right now my whole backyard is a vegetable plot. You can see bits of my garden preserved in my jewellery; tiny little seed clusters, a bloom here or an interesting leaf shape there.
I have been married for seven wonderful years and now I am a full time stay at home mom, with three little boys underfoot! My husband is very supportive and tries to give me time in the studio when I need it.

I have been married for seven wonderful years and now I am a full time stay at home mom, with three little boys underfoot! My husband is very supportive and tries to give me time in the studio when I need it.
I started my own full time jewellery business after graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) in 2009. My business consists of three different types of jewellery; the first type is my one of a kind art pieces. These are usually large scale and more conceptually driven. I like to think of them as “mini wearable sculptures” and it is not uncommon for me to put in 40+ hours on one of these pieces. In 2010 I received a few awards for these including "Best of Show" at Influx Jewellery Gallery's juried exhibition, and "Best Integration of Theme and Execution" at Zilberschmuck's Jewellery competition. The second type of jewellery I create is limited production, like what I have for sale here on Etsy. I have my “wire garden series” which I create by fusing sterling argentium silver, my “seed series” which I fuse or cast little granulation balls, and my resin series which protects my own little flower artworks. The last category of jewellery I make falls under the special commission title. I like to take on projects that relate in style or theme to my current body of work, these can be really fun, working with another person gives me more of a design challenge. You can see in my portfolio section of my personal website images and examples of all my jewellery. Check it out! www.melissapedersen.com
