About

Hi everyone and welcome!,

My name is Nur. I have a painting and sculpting background with BA and MA degrees in Visual Arts back in my home country. Prior to making jewelry, I lived as a painter and Visual Arts teacher in many State Art schools for about 12 years. While teaching I took several courses from different master craftsmen and Metal and Arts certificate courses in ACAD and moved to making jewelry since I always loved making jewelry and I thought that I could express myself better by using my hands. I think jewelry has the third dimension which makes it a wearable small size sculpture which you can communicate with the viewer/buyer.

The jewelry of mine which consists of only the metal itself and do not include a specimen, crystal or a gem on it is in conception mostly featuring clean lined, sculptural, and modern, three dimensional forms with contrast of either hand-woven or reticulated, sometimes etched textures. Last two years I started again to play with organic shapes and textures as seen in the first years of my jewelry experience(1997)... Incorporating my design element of woven texture alongside clean crisp lines into much of my work provides a signature that is uniquely of my own. Also I developed my own very unique method in making 3D spirals from metal sheet which gives a nice depth to a jewelry.

I draw inspiration from wide range of sources including textile, nature, kinetic sculptures and architectural forms. I like to use beautiful shapes created by nature especially sculptural specimens and rough stones. When I was a little girl I recap my dad who was a Mining Engineer had brought me so many specimen which he'd found on the fields when he come back from mine investigations. He and I was amazed by some of them, i.e. vivid yellow big Sulphur crystal, huge pyrite crystals, tourmalines and one which has a shiny needle like feathery texture on it which I assume was a serpentine. I was in love with that cuddly flexible fibrous texture. :)

I design my jewelry using classical materials that I am inherently drawn to: using the sterling and fine silver as a main metal I also like to use gold, copper, bronze, brass sometimes incorporated with gemstones, rough crystals and specimen. You can also come across with some antique coins, antique spindle whorls and old trade beads and ancient glass used in my jewelry.
