Artist Statement

Through an ongoing investigation of materials, forms, patterns, and surface treatments, I strive to make beautiful ceramic objects that offer not only enjoyment, but utility and adornment. From the positive space they are comprised of, to the negative space they create, these objects harmonize the way we live, the way we eat, and the way we feel. For me, a successful pot exhibits fluidity, symmetry, and excellent craftsmanship. Furthermore, it offers considerable depth, and through use, allows for further and further investigation.

A life in the mountains allows for many outdoor opportunities that influence the need to make and also help to counteract the indoor lifestyle of a potter. I'm a person who seeks balance, in life, in people, in my work, and so on. Ultimately, I'm on a quest for knowledge and happiness, and the ability to share that with others. It is this quest for knowledge, about ceramics, about life, about the world, that makes life worth living.
