About

I am very grateful for the many blessings that have allowed me to be a painter for these last 26 years or so. As a golf professional and former Head Golf Professional at Riviera Country Club (1993-1998) in Pacific Palisades CA., I have been given a special insight into golf architecture as well as access to many great golf courses. Hence, my golf landscapes are painted with a maximum effort in attaining accuracy in the architectural features of each and every golf hole. Being trained in a 19th century style by mentor and art dealer, Gene Mako, my golf landscapes are a combination of a very accurate architecture rendering in a natural appearing but romantic light. This light is achieved through depiction of time of day, season and prevailing weather. I believe that these qualities separate my work from all other golf landscape painters. I have had "one man" shows at both the United States Golf Association Museum in Far Hills, NJ and…

I have had "one man" shows at both the United States Golf Association Museum in Far Hills, NJ and The World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida. I am greatly inspired by the best of golf architecture and have specialized in painting the work of the masters like Alistar MacKenzie, George Thomas, William Flynn, Donald Ross, Ben Crenshaw/Bill Coore, Pete Dye, A.W. Tillinghast, George Crump, and others. Many of these paintings can be found in the book, "The Art of Golf Design" which I illustrated with golf historian, Geoff Shackelford and in a second book of his 'The Golden Age of Golf design" which I also illustrated.
Additionally, I specialize in still life, 19th century landscape and religious painting which are mostly inspired by the work of Henri Fantin Latour, William Merritt Chase, John Singer Sargent, Peter Paul Rubens and Bartholomew Mako (Gene Mako's father).,
Frank Benson, Frank Tenny Johnson, Willard Medcalf, and many, many others of that wonderful era of real painters.
I left the chaos of Los Angeles in 2007 and moved to the very peaceful and bucolic town of Anderson, Indiana in order to marry the beautiful Joyce Martin. I continue to paint in my downtown Anderson 4th floor studio. A larger body of my output can be found at michaelgmillerfineart.net
