About

I have been a nature lover from way back in Florida, where I grew up. I went to a small school named Bartram School, named after the early naturalists, John and William Bartram. On the walls hung prints of William Bartram's many watercolors of trees, plants, and critters from the southeast. Maybe this influenced me, i don't know. I just know I love being outside, I love rocks, birds, wildflowers, trees, and all forms of wildlife - from frogs to foxes, from opposums to black bears, and luckily I live in a place where it's possible to see all these things.

I hike often (almost every day) and have kept a nature journal for years. About four years ago I decided to start a nature-journaling blog. I call it Middlewood Journal after my home which is in the middle of the woods. You can find it here:…

I hike often (almost every day) and have kept a nature journal for years. About four years ago I decided to start a nature-journaling blog. I call it Middlewood Journal after my home which is in the middle of the woods. You can find it here:

Many of the journal entries have been gathered into a book, soon to be published by Hub City Press. You can find info on the press here:

The book, titled Middlewood Journal... Drawing Inspiration from Nature, will be out in the fall of 2012. This is exciting, and time consuming, but still nature waits for me. Everyday I hope to make it out to the woods.

The windowsills of my home are filled with rocks, feathers, seashells, turkey eggs (left from when the turkey hen hatched eggs in our woods) and other natural goodies that I find on my hikes and journeys. I will post a photo of my kitchen windowsill soon. You won't believe it. Every year I have to clean it off, wash the rocks and assorted stuff, sort through it all, and replace only some of it, because MORE will be added throughout the coming year. Oh how I love my collection! Friends bring me rocks from their travels, as well, and I have so many that now I have to write where the rock is from, and put the initials of my friends' names. Amazing how many interesting things I have on my windowsill at any given time, and to extend my joy, i decided to paint some of the items. I will be adding to my "windowsill collection" paintings along and along. Check back to see various things from Middlewood.

The Flint Rocks and Pipestems print is the first I added from my windowsill collection. More will be added very soon, because i have so many interesting stories to tell about my rocks and things. Please check back often.
