I fatefully ran into the beautiful handwoven "Tejido" textile while in Guatemala on a mission trip in conjunction with the University of South Carolina.
The beautiful textile used is the inspiration behind this collection. The wonderfully woven textiles (more like pieces of art) are much more than what meets the eye: The designs and the tradition of weaving date back thousands of years.
This textile is woven on a Backstrap loom that has been in practice since early 500 BC. Guatemalans are expert colorist and have passed this knowlege down for generations. The art of weaving with a Backstrap loom leaves flexiblilty for Guatemalan women to raise their young and still provide an income through selling their goods.
