Misha's Art's Profile

About

I create art using clay and other mediums. I live in the mountain town of Ruidoso, New Mexico. But my life has taken another path. Enamored with the Southwest, my work focuses primarily on the people and the animals that lived in the region. My color pallette was of warm, rich earth tones with a splash of turquoise or red. I've been sculpting in various mediums for over forty years and every creation is different. I create each sculpture one at a time and decorate them with feathers and vintage beads and other beautiful adornments. Threads and fibers, ribbons and fringe, I add each element to make the sculpture unique. I am in love with the texture and versatility of clay. Holding my breath as I open the kiln, it's like Christmas morning! I like to incorporate sticks, twigs, interesting stones and shells and other found objects. My studio is brimming with paints and stains and feathers and furs and beads and strange objects. My inspiration surrounds me.
This year has brought many awards and much recognition. "Amigos" received the Merit of Recognition from the NM Potters and Clay group. My work was featured in the recently opened Museum of History, Santa Fe, New Mexico. I was awarded First Place at the 2013 Weems International Artfest for my Raven "Heart Song". Finally, I was accepted as an associate member of the Women Artists of the West, a juried membership that I have strived to achieve for over ten years.!
January 2016, I will be at the Arizona Fine Art Expo in Scottsdale Arizona. You can watch me create art an have an opportunity to purchase one of a kind sculptures at this show. Enjoy a stroll through the Sculpture garden while previewing the work of over 100 artists under the big, white Tents in Scottsdale, AZ.
