Art has always been a part of my world. I have never been able to separate the everyday world from a work of art. Art is everywhere! When I was in college, I would walk the same way to class everyday. One day as I was walking to class I noticed a pile of trash that had been placed on the curb. There was a garden gazing ball that had fallen out of the trash and had broken on the ground. No one ever cleaned up that mirrored gazing ball and as the semester went on the mirror became partially buried in the dirt. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The mirrors looked as though they were sprouting from the ground. They looked like round smooth and shiny fruit coming from the earth taking on the color of the world around it. I looked forward to seeing it everyday on my walk to class.
That experience took my art to a new level. I no longer was satisfied with the smooth flat brushstrokes I was accustomed to. I wanted to add the textures I saw everyday to my paintings. I am inspired by texture, from the rough, scratchy surface of tree bark to the smooth and rolling landscape of bubble wrap. I adore it! It brings my paintings to life and takes color to a whole new place.
I see art in everything and I want to share it with the world. I believe everyone is an artist-some people just hide it better than others. I, however, cannot keep it in. I must create! I approach each painting as blank as the canvas itself. I pour my emotions into my paint and let my brush take over. I never know where I am heading, but I really enjoy the process.
