About

I have stopped collecting.

Now I turn my fabric/button/bead/trim collection into unique hand-made treasures.

I drop them like pebbles into the etsy ocean. Their ripples touch shores I may never see, but I send them with much love and many blessings.

I grew up "setting up factories all over the house." I make things. I often make things out of other things. I make really pretty things sometimes, and these I offer to you.

Some of my favorite paintings have been born of leftover paint. The same for the myriad ornaments, jewelry and hand -sewn textile goods I produce. My children insist am part elf.

When I started mjjrosebuds in 1991, in the upper corner of an antique mall, my perky business card promised: art antiques pretty things. I divided earnings this way: a third back into the shop; a third to existing AIDS charities: and a third into savings for a future residence for people living with AIDS. I earned a Masters degree in Pastoral Ministry and volunteered for several AIDS organizations During these years, I also worked through the paralyzing grief following my dearest friend's illness and death.

When I detoured into marriage and mom-hood, all the antiques went up into the attic to get older.

Now I have college-age kids, so this reappearance of MJJ Rosebuds is brought to you by Smith and Providence colleges.

The antiques are all still up in the attic getting older. I still volunteer for a local residence for men with AIDS. When our tuition years have passed, I will host a Healing House (as my daughter calls it).

Besides painting (I love my Tree Heaven series), I am currently making art dolls, felt pins with glass bead details; hand-sewn tapestry and velvet pillows; small decorations with glass beads and embroidery; glass Christmas ornaments including tiny hand-sewn and beaded mittens...OK, OK, so maybe my kids are right about the elf thing.

I sign my work A've (as in A've Maria), a college nickname.

As for you, patient reader, may you find something to amuse and delight you.

Namaste'

Mary
