Mary Kay Stam's Profile

About

Art is everyone's first language. My mother was a firm believer in staying fluent in it instead of discarding it for language. As children we were carted off to museums and involved in craft projects. The making of beautiful, meaningful objects representing a labor of love continues to be a part of my daily life. It seemed natural when I incorporated meditation into my daily yoga practice, to make mala prayer beads. As I studied various cultures I became fascinated in how the beads are used and have made orthodox strands as well as Hindu, Buddhist, Baha'i and Catholic rosaries. I enjoy discovering a little about my clients when we discuss their preferences and how they'll use the beads.
