Ellyn and Tim Phelps' Profile

About

We are a husband and wife team creating unique rustic and primitive items. Very few materials go to waste here - you'll often find a live edge bookshelf or table alongside ornaments or boxes crafted from "scraps". Everything is hand made, and often without patterns.

Tim's expertise is woodworking - creating rustic frames and furniture out of "live edge" wood. His pieces are either stained, poly'd or painted and distressed in a primitive style. Although we do not list Tim's larger pieces on Etsy, additional photos are available on our website at www.moderationcorner.com/furniture.html. Most of Tim's time is spent on custom requests.

Ellyn's handwork varies - from hand sculpted polymer Santa figures and ornaments to more general fabric items such as ornaments or dolls. Homespun cottons, died wool, felt, and vintage coat materials are some favorites to work with. Using scrap pieces of wood leftover from Tim's projects, she'll create unique sign boards and primitive decorations. Though most items are designed as well as crafted in house, you'll also find a few items crafted by hand using other designer's patterns. These items will be listed with the original designer's name or where the pattern came from.

We're often asked about the name of our shop "Moderation Corner". Simply enough, we live right on the corner (literally... the road is inches from our windows), and our address is "Moderation street". The area that we live in was historically named Moderation village. We love to mix a little old with a little new, so the name seemed to fit.
