Passion for art and working on new ideas makes me fall in love with art direction.
Hi, my name is Mohit Lakhmani and I am based in New Delhi. I work predominantly within the realm of paper and contemporary art. I have been in art and media field since more than 4 years now. I am certified by Cambridge International Examination for 3d Animation and VFX and successfully completed online course by Lynda.com on Online Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Effective Meetings and Time Management.
I started my career in the CG industry and gained experience with international studio, GEON, Sahara India Pariwar, Mumbai. While my time in GEON I worked on various Hollywood projects.
Then I joined Powermation Academy and Picasso animation collage as a CG & Design Trainer. There I trained more than 500 graduates and post graduate students and helped building their creative & technical skill set along with making their personality grow into a professional.
My hobbies and skills got me involved and started in art direction and paper sculpting. I first discovered paper architecture by looking at the work of Prof. Masahiro Chatani, the originator of this art form, an architect and professor in Japan. I believe that one of the main reasons I enjoy this craft, is my love of the material: paper. Although I've always had a special fascination for paper, it has taken me a while to find my own way of working with it; and then it took a little longer to find out the technique I have been using so intensively in form of Architecture and Paper lamp modeling.
Working with paper by cutting and folding it to make sculptures, required me to work with meditative precision. Paper architecture does not bare haste, it is its enemy; one moment of loss of concentration, can lead to failure of a piece. I experience an ultimate satisfaction at the critic moment when the paper, with a silenced sigh, surrenders and becomes a blade-sharp crease. The sound of the paper, which guides this surrendering, to me is incomparable...'
As a contemporary artist I experiment with electronic junk, to show complex mechanism of technology, creating something truly simple and my latest work on a 6 feet installation inspired by Subodh Gupta's ABSOLUT VODKA utensil installation shows the same.
I got my interview published on platforms such as Animationxpress.com, Animationsupplement.com, Animation-boss.com and Animationgalaxy.com etc. for my artworks and design ventures and my work was also featured on various Art & Design portals.
I also got selected for National round of Red Bull Paper Wing Competition 2012.
