Guki Khalsa's Profile

About

Hi! My name is Guki Khalsa. I am an architect/ jeweler who is obsessed with creating. While architecture is concerned with function jewelry has very little functional requirements and so I feel free to let my imagination run wild, it is limitless!
Like a lot of artist I feel like the need to create has been with me my entire life, from the ornate mud pies that I decorated with twigs and flowers to my first attempt at crocheting which quickly turned into an afghan. Creation has always seemed a bit like magic to me. In fact the memory of the first time I cast an object in brass is a powerful one. I felt like a Greek god, “I can shape metal with my bare hands!” I roared. ;) Well it’s not quite that easy, but you get the idea.
When creating jewelry I often feel like I get to dabble in magic: like conjuring an object from a pile of precious metals and amazing gemstones is a feat of alchemy. Jewelry came…

When creating jewelry I often feel like I get to dabble in magic: like conjuring an object from a pile of precious metals and amazing gemstones is a feat of alchemy. Jewelry came into my life in sort of magical way when I found an amazing bead box buried in a dark and dusty attic. When I opened that bead box it was like opening a treasure chest which sparkled and glowed with long hidden treasure.
Magic has always been an important force in my life. I have always experienced it when out in nature, communing with the rocks and trees or while exploring amazing architecture that breaths the history of a place. Nature and travel have always been huge sources of inspiration to me. Nature because there is endless variety in the world and sometimes beauty is found in the most unlikely places. I have been lucky to have started traveling early in my life, I attended boarding school in India which was an adventure full of a magic all its own. It spawned an obsession with traveling and experiencing new lands and cultures.
I now live in lovely Hailey, Idaho, just a stone's throw from the Sun Valley Ski Resort (the oldest ski resort in the United States). It is a place of climatic extremes, where winter is cold and long and summer dry and hot, but both equally beautiful. My Architect/Engineer husband and I live in a log house which we are constantly remodeling. We are in the process of turning it into a unique combination of contemporary and rustic. Fortunately between the two of us we have a lot of creativity and eagerness to learn new skills... let's just say we never get bored.
