Maria (Hoeppner) Tinnell: I received a BFA from the University of Louisville (1984). My work has been printed in Arts Across Kentucky & Louisville Today magazine

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I have been creating my unique style of baskets since 1981. From a distance the smooth fluid control of my baskets give them an almost ceramic quality. Upon closer inspection one is pleasantly surprised at the tactile quality of the linen and other materials used.

I has been a member of LAFTA (Louisville Area Fiber & Textile Artists) since 1999 and have participated in several LAFTA events.

I has been a member of LAFTA (Louisville Area Fiber & Textile Artists) since 1999 and have participated in several LAFTA events.

Most of my baskets are never even sketched before starting them. My inspiration for the shapes are drawn from native American baskets, however, the colors are more contemporary. The long fiber linen thread I uses gives the baskets strength that will allow them to last for many generations to enjoy.
