We are excited that Martha Stewart noticed. In 2013, she brought our shop to national attention with a 3 page article on us in her May issue of Living. Then, after watching us grow even bigger over the next 18 months she again recognized us. This fall (2014) we were presented with an Honorable Mention as Heritage Artisans. Out of 6,000 American Made artisans and businesses, we were one of 4 to receive that honor!

Nautical bracelets, nautical weddings, and nautical decorations are what we are all about. For over 50 years, our family has been serving the coastal community with some of the finest knots available.

Our family has been making decorative knots for nearly 60 years. In addition to the knots you see in this shop, we have MANY other styles and knots available. Time permitting, we would like to work with you on new knotted patterns and styles.

We have been providing the sailor knot bracelets to New England locals and tourists for over 50 years in locations including Block Island, Provincetown, Essex, Misquamicut, and of course Mystic. If you have ever vacationed in southern New England, you have surely seen our work.

The secret is the cord. We have all of our cotton cord custom made to look like the authentic rope you see on sailing ships. We still retain sample cords from the 1930's - the 1970's. These serve as reference when having our custom cord made. Our standards for materials are as demanding as our own commitment to perfect execution of the nautical knots we grew up with.

Our innovation is that we don't innovate on our materials. We stay behind the times, or put another way, we keep our authenticity.

Mystic Knotwork is a husband and wife team - Matt & Jill

Matt - Mystic Knotwork was created to share the products my family has been selling in Southern New England since the 1960's. My grandfather had his shop across the street from the Mystic Seaport, and thousands of people visited his home/shop over the years. I learned to love the feel of quality cordage and knotwork is just in my blood.

Every knot for sale and photographed in this store was created by us here in Mystic, CT. We purchase our cordage from American factories made by American companies. We pride ourselves on our quality, and if you are not happy, we are not happy.

Jill - I have always been a creative person and love crafts of all kinds. When I met my husband, he introduced me to knot tying and I was hooked.

We also both love boating and own a sailboat. It is only fitting as sailors that we make sailor knot bracelets!

Chista - our daughter joined the team to help check orders, keep track of what we need to make, and generally manage her parents. She is also learning to carry on the traditions into a fourth generation.
