About

Welcome! My name is Sarah aka the Vegan Hippie Freak! I am a 25 year old nurse, hippie, feminist, and vegan. I opened my shop here in 2008 selling candles, jewelry, and soaps. Since those things are available everywhere, I didn't really sell that much. I have been collecting political buttons since I was a teenager. My collection covered the entire front flap of my (large) messenger bag and people would often stop to comment on them. One day in the fall of 2011 I decided to look into making buttons myself. I did some research and found a good quality machine within my price range. I decided to purchase it and the rest is history!

You'll find that many of my buttons have a liberal, vegan, and feminist theme. This is because buttons are a great way to express how you feel, and those are the things that I feel strongly about. I believe in fighting racism and inequality, stopping animal abuse, preserving…

About

I believe in fighting racism and inequality, stopping animal abuse, preserving the environment, and ensuring that women have equal rights. I have been a vegetarian since the fall of 2010 and a vegan since October 2011. This means that I do not eat, use, or wear anything derived from animals, including milk, cheese, or honey. I often donate to organizations such as the Humane Society and educate people about veganism when they ask.

I also believe that we should do everything we can to take care of the earth. I recycle as much of my waste that I can. I try to avoid disposable items and re-use whatever I can. I also use recycled paper in my buttons whenever possible.

As for women's rights, I believe that women should have the same opportunities as men and that women should receive equal pay. I believe that abortion and contraception should remain both legal and accessible. I'm also a major advocate for midwifery and natural childbirth. My dream is to become a homebirth midwife. This may seem like a contradiction, but it's not. Remember, being pro-choice means that you support BOTH the right to choose an abortion AND the right to choose to give birth.

Outside of nursing and politics, my hobbies include the following (in no particular order):
1) Watching DVDs of my favorite TV shows. These include classic 1970s shows such as "Tony Orlando and Dawn" (also my favorite music group), "Emergency!", and "Good Times". I also like "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman", "NCIS", "Hawaii 5-0", and the British shows "Bramwell" and "Horrible Histories".

2) Reading. I love books about American Indians, Japan, Nursing, animal rights and politics.

3) Music. My favorite genres are 1970s pop and rock, folk, hip hop, and American Indian music.

4) American Indian Culture. I am of Cherokee and possibly Sioux Indian heritage (no princess grandmas I promise!). I love studying about American Indian cultures. I attend powwows whenever I can and have visited both the Cherokee Indian land in NC and the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in SD. I am currently studying the Cherokee language.

5) Japan. I am fascinated by Japanese culture. I read/watch everything about the country that I can. I am a fan of the manga/anime series Inu-Yasha and Shin Chan. I also have 32 Maneki Neko/Lucky Cat statues, with room for a few more!

As you can see, my tastes are eclectic. I hope that you enjoy my buttons as much as I enjoy creating them. Thanks for visiting and have a good day!
