Mom sat me on her knee at 8 years old and wouldn't let me off her lap until I learned to crochet. That was a long 5 years-- but seriously-- a few hours later I was able to see the sucess of my efforts.
I was a young business woman, creating crocheted Barbie clothes and stuffed animals for sale at the local craft fairs well before the internet was a gleam in a computer's eye.
I teach Chemistry by day and engage in erstwhile needle distractions at night such as crocheting, knitting and embroidery.
The needlework tradition is deep in our family. My grandmother on my father's side taught me to knit and tat. On my mother's side, we often gather for craft nights.
