About

Hailing from Boston, MA, Nina Hobbs is a Biology graduate student and PhD candidate. Her father, a well-known Toxicologist in the North East, has ingrained in her a love of science and nature. While her mother, a Marketing Analyst and immigrant from India, has raised Nina with the cultural and traditional aspects that define her ethnicity. With her inherited scientific mind and love of foreign lands, she became obsessed with the natural world and developed her life long passion for animals. Her dream is to become an exotic animal Veterinarian and travel the world working to protect endangered species.

Having such a fascination with mother earth, it is no surprise that Nina turned to clay as an artistic outlook. She fell in love with the medium in her early teens and has vowed to continue ceramics throughout her life. Her mission is to portray the world around her as she sees it by imitating some of her favorite creatures and the natural phenomenons that encompass them. Thus, her artwork has become a convergence of her many passions, with small glimpses into her whimsical personality and intellectualism.

Perhaps rooted from her mothers’ Hindu belief of Karma, Nina believes that all things in this world are recurring, and is evident in her attraction to clay. Dug from the very earth beneath our feet, and teeming with microorganisms decomposing the very decay of everything above them, Ceramics is in a sense, her way of creating. By composing with the decomposed, she makes something beautiful out of dirt.
