About

Welcome to the Etsy home of Observatory Hill Farm. We are located in the gently rolling hills of southern Wisconsin. Our pastures lay in the shelter of a tree-covered ridge that was once known as the location of a homemade astronomical observatory, a telescope placed in an old grain silo.

Now at night it's our sheep that enjoy the views of stars, planets, and the Northern Lights. By day, they graze on pastures of grasses and clover, and are happy to accept a scratch on the head from their devoted shepherds.

Our flock consists of "classic" Corriedales, which have a fleece of medium fineness, and that blocky, well-defined crimp that Corriedale wool is known for.

We also have a number of fine-fibered Corriedales, with fleeces that approach Merino in their extremely fine crimp and soft handle. Finally, we have a few Australian Bond and Bond x Corriedale sheep, with classic-style fleeces in a lovely moorit color. Among our flock you'll see all shades of the natural colored wool rainbow: grays, browns and black in addition to white.

I skirt our raw fleeces heavily to make sure you get the best part of the wool, and do my best to make each fleece as clean as possible. I would not sell you a fleece that I would not be willing to spin myself.

We love our sheep and their wool, and we think you'll love it too once you feel its plush softness yourself.
