Kate Haefner's Profile

About

To some Jewelry is an extension of one’s persona. I find the interaction between the body and the movement of a piece of jewelry fascinating. Forms from nature provide amazing examples of how texture, line, and form can be combined to produce designs that have movement, thought and intrigue. Being inspired by pods, fungi, botanical and cellular images, my metal work mimics the organic currents and grace found in nature’s design. Using the processes of etching, stamping, piercing, chasing and repoussé and die forming I am able to create dimensionally textured jewelry pieces. The asymmetrical themes and patterns draw a balance to the opposition of the strong, unyielding composition of metal and the gentle, flowing forms of nature.
