While I was in grad school pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts, I recognized that the laser cutter I was using to build furniture for classrooms in Africa also had the potential to produce wearable art... and that is how the Aztecan Collection was born. The collection is completely inspired by the rich culture of my new southwestern home in Phoenix, AZ. The combination of leather and precious stones make for a contemporary piece of jewelry that is delicately reminiscent of the past.
The leather used in the collection is from veg tan scraps and surplus leather samples, which usually get tossed - but I've found a way to transform them into eco-friendly adornments! The leather scraps are laser cut, hand-dyed, and finished with a coat that will allow the pieces to develop a patina of character with wear.
