About

I spent 30+ years as an RN, half of that in Labor/Delivery and with the mothers and newborns.
I went back to school in my 40's to allow me take another direction in my life. Raising 3 daughters, working and supporting my veterinarian husband in his practice had worn me out.
Just at that time "SM" (steak man) and I moved to the Chicago area for his mid life crisis. After 6 weeks it was obvious that a man who had spent all his adult life in a pick-up, was not going to be happy in the new environment. After about 18 months, the company set us west to Colorado. At least we could see mountains again; 18 months of corn fields and smog were behind us. We spent the CO time enjoying our 3 grandchildren who were not far away. I also worked with 20 year olds in a landscape nursery. For 2 years I really was buff!

One day I was with SM while he talked to a comercial real estate broker. SM's company was looking for acquisitions and I was just along for the ride. Out of the blue SM asked if he had any mom and pop businesses available. He did have one but a buyer needed to be artsy-crafty. SM exclaimed "OH JUDY IS". That is not the way I would have described myself but, what did I know. He took us to a company that was cutting industrial products and paper. The paper products were scrapbooking pieces. They had some good clients and one that was quite large. When we had looked around and saw what they were producing, I fell in love with the whole business. Now at this point, the only thing I knew about lasers and computers was how to put figures into Quick Books. So 10 years ago I started on a vertical path to learn to run, fix, scream at and all but hit those lasers with a hammer. Learning the design software was another giant leap of faith. The computer allows me to create a file, send it to the laser and produce something that will help others design beautiful pages in a family heirloom.
Our part in the industry has changed and we have with it. The company which use to employ 6-7 people is now just me. I love to design, and I add my passion for glass work into as many laser projects as possible. I also cut for some professional Paper Cutters of the International Society of Paper Cutters. You can't imagine what wonderful and beautiful pieces these people create. I feel honored to have worked with some.
And, I am doing all this in the mountains of Montana, in a studio, in a barn, beside a river next to our Lodge which is SM's happy place.
So, there may be some smoke from the fires that keep us warm, and pollin from pine trees, but there will not be tobacco smoke in any of our products.
It has been a pleasure visiting with you. I would love to hear from some Etsiers. Where are you and what are you doing for yourself? I love this life. JG
