Joel Cooper's Profile
I am a graduate of the University of Kansas with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts. I have worked in many artistic media, including oils, charcoal, cast metal and ceramics, but it is in folded paper that I have found my most personal form of expression. Since 2006, my work has been displayed in galleries and exhibitons throughout the world. I have donated pieces to the permanent collections of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, and the Krapina City Gallery in Krapina, Croatia.
My style is an extrapolation of the genre of modern origami called "origami tessellation". This is a technique of geometric folding that repeats patterns of creases throughout a single piece of paper to create visually appealing abstract designs. I have used my experience in traditional sculpture media to take these techniques into three dimensions.
