About

I live in Northern Virginia, eight miles from Washington, DC, in a condominium across the road from a lake with my cat Lulu. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania but am now a city slicker. I love Washington.

I love to make stuff and am basically a self- taught artist. I have studied many Somerset Studio magazines!!! I have lots of mentors whose work I've studied who have provided inspiration.

I never considered myself an artist and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered in midlife that I had talent to play around with paper and create interesting collages. I've been told "You have a good eye" many times and hope that will allow me to excel at collaging.

I have taken courses here and there and attended an Art & Soul workshop, a couple Claudine Hellmuth workshops and a Durwin Rice decoupage class…

Among several previous careers, I was a social worker. That part of me is still trying to help people understand themselves and improve their lives, and I frequently incorporate words and phrases in my work meant to provide 'feel good' inspiration and motivation. I named my business "thinkUP" because I want people to look at my work and think positive and to feel good about themselves.

My profile name on etsy is paperannie. I create things from paper and my middle name is Anne.

I use vintage, copyright-free images and created my own alphabets from my huge collection of letters I cut out of old magazines. I like to use old things but strive to make them current. I'm into pretty, and shabby chic, but most definitely have a funky, edgy side. I want to 'push the envelope' and be adventurous.
