About

I live in Northern Virginia, eight miles from Washington, DC, in a condominium across the road from a lake. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania but have lived in the Washington metro area for so long it feels like home.

I love to make stuff and am basically a self- taught artist. To get started I studied lots of Somerset Studio magazines and took courses here and there. I have many mentors whose work I studied who provided inspiration.

I never considered myself an artist and was pleasantly surprised to discover in midlife that I had some artistic talent and began playing around with paper and making things. I've been told I "have a good eye" and just use my intuition to figure out what papers go where.

Among several previous careers, I was a social worker. That part of me is still trying to help people understand themselves and improve their lives, and I frequently incorporate words and phrases in my work meant to provide 'feel good' motivation. I named my business "thinkUP" because I want people to look at my work and think positive and to feel good about themselves. That name is not incorporated and somehow I just call myself paperannie. I create things from paper and my middle name is Anne.

I use vintage, copyright-free found images and created my own alphabets from my huge collection of letters cut out of old magazines. I like to use old things but strive to make them current. I'm into pretty, and shabby chic, but most definitely have a funky, edgy side. I want to push the envelope and be adventurous.
