Cath Waters' Profile

About

I am a Scottish Landscape and botanical artist. For the most part self taught, I use digital techniques to combine photography with painting, textures of peeling varnish, watercolour washes, fabric, crumbling plaster.....all sorts of unusual things to create soft, painterly images. The resulting work sits between the genres of painting, digital collage and photography.

Mush of the inspiration for my landscape work comes from the wide open spaces, vast grey skies and low light of the Scottish West Coast, the Firth of Forth and East Lothian.

For my botanical images I draw on the structure and form of plants and flowers rather than their “prettiness”. I think that many plants look most graceful when faded and dried and I try to capture this in my work.
