About

I'm an Irish artist and studied Drawing at Camberwell, University of The Arts London.

My work revolves around people, places and memories be they real or ethereal. These present themselves in organic forms along with obsessive, repetitive mark makings and printed materials.

I begin to draw onto the piece it then informs the direction of the piece. Each piece starts off with a colour palette with which I use elements of form, structure and pattern. The organic free flow movement of paint alongside the more structured line drawings or printed matter co-exist to form a landscape of kind.

These pieces resemble maps forging a way to tell a narrative of a place or time, be it dreamed or reality.

Adding depth to each piece in the form of printed material often old maps themselves or old books, which are chosen mostly as a reminder of childhood memories. Having a fascination with maps, how they guide, navigate and inform but also with specific icon and codes maps use to direct. The shapes of the paint strokes are fluid and free, when painting it is like the paintbrush is dancing with the paint on paper, a kind of romance that shifts & changes to reveal the initial backdrop for the piece I'm working on. Then as I add line drawings and collage the work takes shapes, becomes more structured & begins to fit together like a jigsaw. My work relates to belonging. With belonging comes connectivity, which brings hope & ultimately love.

My work is often repetitive, labour intensive and fragile, but I like that, I actually find it quite therapeutic!
