Art is like a second skin to me & often it is judged.

There are some moments that you pass through in life without noticing, and then there are those moments that forever change who you are.

I remember pulling up to my house in the dark thinking I must have forgotten to leave the lights on & why aren’t my animals making a sound. I walked to my door & suddenly realized that my house and 25 years of artwork had somehow burned to the ground. If my art is a true reflection of which I am, then my body of work is one that has recreated itself from nothing.

Art is evolution.

Standing in the ashes of my former house, I found my eternal home.

I sold my first piece of work at age seven. Growing up in S.C I spent much of my youth watching my father’s hands work the wood. As he carved he gave me the understanding and value of wood >>”use your resources,” he said. That lesson gave me the path for my quest in life. I then started to experiment with how I could transform wood into beautiful & functional art. My next lesson was learning to cut & carve without taking away from its natural curves & grains. Wood is my canvas…creating 2 & 3 dimensional works & life size puzzles.

I am a Wood Artist. I consider wood to be a partner of what I create. Wood gives me the design & I simply follow through. I don’t view my artistry as some mystical thing that just happened, but rather a manifestation of how nature intended for my life & expression to be. By using wood as my guide, it has helped me to understand the parallels of life & art.
I want my work to capture stories in life.
I am currently working on the never ending instillation entitled the Embryo: an organism in its early development stage, before birth & germination.

My life is a bit like a symphony… May the wood experience be everything for each of you that it continues to be for me~

Keep Blooming
